Big fuzzy mascot!

I finally uploaded a couple more pictures from the Final Four. This is the only one that I find to be entertaining. (Side note: the dude was walking through the courtyard area with the cheerleaders on their way to the game, or practice & seemed quite put out to have to put his head on and take a picture. Hi, you're a mascot. People are going to want to take pictures with you when they see you. Get over it.)

10,000 more idiots will soon be on the streets

Tonight, as the Cubs take on the Florida Marlins, it's Cubs Pink Ballcap night at the ballpark. Pink. Now, if that weren't annoying enough, the hats went out to the first 10,000 females age 14 and over. OVER. When children reach the age of 10-12 years old, it's typically the cut off for girls who wish to wear pink sports gear or boys wishing to bring their glove to the ballgame. Instead, the Cubs decide to give away these hats to mostly adult women. I can understand a young girl not caring about/wanting a pink hat, but what woman (or man, even) who claims to be a fan of the team, would ever sport a pink cap?

Pink is not a Cubs color.

But it looks so cute!

So...Megan's wedding is coming up

That means I get to buy new clothes to wear... even more exciting, new jewelry!

So, yesterday I ate lunch at the Vets memorial next to the river & then went shopping for necklaces for the wedding. Somehow I ended up with 3 necklaces and 2 pair of earrings.

I head to MarshallFieldsMacys because they sometimes have great sales and generally have a large selection. What do you know, they had a sale!

So, going in, I knew I wanted a bigger beaded necklace, more than likely in red. I get to MFM and noticed they had very little red necklaces, but they did have a turquoise colored big beaded necklace. Marked down from $24 or something already cheap - to $12. I found a pair of earrings that matched & ended up paying a total of like $16 at MFM. I was happy to have found a necklace/earrings for the wedding. Plus, the turquoise will go nicely in Phoenix. Or something.

I'm happily walking back toward my office when I see a girl wearing a dress with a similar neckline, in the same color as my dress. She has on the red beads. I see how great it looks and now decide I want to find big red beads. Since they didnt have them at MFM, I stopped at a purse store on the way back to the office.

I ended up finding 2 red necklaces there. One of the big bead variety (with earrings) and one completely random one that probably won't go with the dress at all. Again, being the bargain shopper that I am, I only decide to buy these new found treasures because of how cheap they were. The necklace/earring combo was marked down from $30 to $6. The small bead-y one was marked down from $45 to $15. So, again, I spend roughly $20 on jewelry.

I've since decided that I like the turquoise one the best and plan on wearing that. And since I rarely, if ever, return items, I will be keeping the other two necklaces & earrings.

And because you've been so patient in reading this (or patient in your skimming, or scrolling completely past the story to get to the pictures)... here they are (in order of appearance):

Rockforditude, Part 2

I'm not sure how often I'll post in the Rocforditude series, but I've got a couple more today, so I figured I'd blog about them.

Admission #3: As a kid, my parents would recycle old butter & Kool-whip plastic bowls to be used as bowls in our house. Now, I'm not talking about a replacement for tupperware containers only, they were actually the bowls we used every day. I'd eat pudding, ice cream, soup, whatever is served in a bowl, out of these old plastic butter dishes. It wasn't until college that I realized how uncommon this was (I figured everyone did this). After we'd used up our Country Crock butter (which would have never been bought for my house in Rockford, as it was the fancy butter), I took the bowl & started to wash it out. Much to my roommates' surprise, one of them asked me what I was doing. I explained that it can be used as a bowl from now on. Another one looked at me and said, "but we have bowls" & then opened the cabinet with the plastic bowls we bought from Meijer. I continued to wash the bowl, dried it, and then put it in the garbage out of embarrassment.

Admission #4: Growing up, us kids would receive a small allowance based on the chores we did around the house. Usually, it'd be anywhere between 10 cents and a quarter per day. There was a candy store down the street from our house that we could buy candy from - Now-n-laters, Laffy Taffy, Pixie Stix, Lick-a-maid, etc. Most of that stuff cost at least 10 cents each, and after a week of saving, we'd only be able to get a small amount of candy, thus, not fulfilling our sugar fix. Because Pixie Stix & Lick-a-maid were my favorites from the candy store, I decided to make my own version. I'd fill a baggie up with red kool-aid mix, tie a knot in it, and bite one of the corners out. That was my Lick-a-maid.

"Rockforditude"

My friend Sean has coined a new word: "Rockforditude." It's based mainly on my admissions of things I did when I was younger, when I lived in the Rock (as I like to affectionately call it). Neither of the things I admitted to were all that surprising, especially considering that I grew up in the Rock.

Admission #1: I wanted to wear a Jake the Snake T-Shirt for my 5th grade pictures. I wasn't allowed. I was big into the WWF back then, went to many WWF events at the Metro Centre. One of the events, my best friend at the time, Teri Shook, had gotten us really great seats (as if that exists for a wrestling match). We were right near the aisle where the wrestlers would walk in. At the time, Randy "Macho Man" Savage had just gotten rid of his old girl on his side, and hired "Scary Sherry." No one liked Scary Sherry. My friend Teri got right up next to the bars that held the crowd back, and as Scary Sherry walked by, she reached out and scratched Scary Sherry. Normal.

Admission #2: In 7th grade, I was at a new school, away from all of my friends from K-6. In an attempt to fit in & get to know kids at my new school, I tried out for the pom pon team. Now, me trying out for poms is funny enough in itslef, considering how klutzy I can be. Anyway, tryout day comes. I tried out wearing a Metallica t-shirt. Needless to say, I didn't make the squad.

I will try and think of more things, because I'm certain they exist, that can be examples of my Rockforditude.

I have a new site counter meter statistics tracker

It's that neat little tracker button at the bottom of my links on the left.

I'm the only one that can see the statistics, and have made sure that your personal info will not be shared with anyone but me.

Why do I get to see it? Because it's my site, damnit, and I like to know who reads without posting (which is pretty much everyone).

So far, the winner for futhest reader is from Norcross, GA. Way to go shua! ;)

So, I've decided to redo our bathroom

(This is likely to be a boring post about how I've become more domesticated. You've been warned).

Our lease at Westview is up July 31st, we've recently received renewal papers from our landlord, and we've decided to stay for another year. That said, I've decided to redo our bathroom. I've had the same bathroom stuff up in this bathroom & my previous bathroom for 3 years, I'm tired of it. Plus, we recently put up a picture of the Cleveland Arms, the bar in which Matt used to bartend, while living in London. The frame that it's in, along with the colors in the picture, have pretty much forced me to redecorate with a new curtain, rugs, towels, etc (as much redecorating one can do in an apartment).
In any case, here's the new curtain:

I also bought some towels & new bronze colored hooks for the curtain.

Holy crap, this is a pretty boring update.

In other news, the Cubs are on a 5 game winning streak & are finally above .500. They're currently sitting in 2nd place in the worst division in baseball, the NL Central. DLee is hitting above .400 to lead the league.

I've been playing spring softball for the past month, my team is currently 2-3, playing in the competitive league. I struck out yesterday. Looking. After swinging and missing horribly at the first strike. Did I mention I struck out looking? In slow picth softball. Holy awfulness.

That's pretty much it for now. What a boring update.

This is a picture of Steve

Here's a picture of Steve that I took this morning as I was leaving the apartment. You might be able to see the piece of white fabric near his back end. This is his new favorite toy. What is it, you might ask? It's the bottom part of my softball tshirt that I cut off so my shirt would fit better. I accidentally left it out after cutting the shirt & now he's discovered it as his latest toy. It's a piece of shirt fabric.

His other favrite toy these days is the top to a platic green tea bottle. At the moment, it's "stuck" under the TV stand, so all he can do is sit in the front of it and look under, sometimes swiping as if he'd be able to reach it.

This may also remind loyal SCBR readers & Steve lovers alike, that his first toy was the one pictured below. We had to take it away though, in fear that he might swallow the twine.
